2003 News Release
Book from Center for Creative Leadership Honored by Canada's Banff Centre
"The Leader's Edge" receives award from premiere Canadian learning center

Greensboro, N.C. - The Banff Centre, a premiere Canadian learning center, has named The Leader's Edge: Six Creative Competencies for Navigating Complex Challenges as the recipient of its first Leadership Development Book Award. Written by Chuck Palus and David Horth, The Leader's Edge focuses on creative techniques designed to help leaders deal with the increasingly complex, volatile and multidimensional challenges faced by organizations today. Palus and Horth are faculty members at the Center for Creative Leadership (CCL®), an international educational institution devoted to leadership research and training and to integrating leadership development and creativity.

In announcing the award, Jim Force, chairman of the selection committee and a member of the leadership development faculty at The Banff Centre, said that the book offers a "powerful, as well as practical, approach for making effective change."

Based on their research, Palus and Horth demonstrate that traditional approaches simply won't work. Instead, they outline six creative competencies that can be used by each of us to confront the turbulence in today's business environment and to lead more effectively.

The principles outlined in The Leader's Edge are incorporated into Leading Creatively: Navigating Complex Challenges, a five-day leadership development program offered by CCL. One of the many leaders who have benefited from Leading Creatively is Matt Smith of Wave7 Optics.

"The program showed me things I didn't know I had within me, giving me the courage to uncover new and creative areas while exploring, learning, and sharing with others," Smith said. "As my confidence level increased my fears subsided, and co-workers have noticed the difference."

Copies of The Leader's Edge are available by calling CCL at 336-545-2810 or through the CCL Web site.
